Monastic Work

"Idleness is the enemy of the soul." RB 48:1

We have four main industries which help us to support our community and others through the giving of Alms.

Our Bindery has a long history, we have been binding books ever since the early days in Pecos, New Mexico (See Monastery: The Abbey's History). At present, we specialize in thesis, dissertation, family history, genealogy, specialty, bible, periodical and monograph binding for individuals as well as for university and other libraries.

The Bakery makes our delicious fruit cake and date nut cakes. Baking takes place most of the year with the final months of the year dedicated to selling our cakes.

The Wine Warehouse is staffed by lay workers and managed by Rebecca Shouldis. They offer a number of services from wine storage to custom wine shipping.

The Forestry Department works to manage our 1350 acre property. When the market is viable, income is generated from timber sales. We work together with professional foresters from Trout Mountain Forestry to meet our forest stewardship goals.
