A Monk's Perspective
Monastic Work
Fr Francis King took his first vows in 1954.
He currently serves our community as Infimarian and Book Bindery Manager.
As with all other aspects of monastic life, monastic work requires detachment on the part of a monk. That is to say, he comes to the monastery to serve God and do His will, not his own. It is always presumed that God speaks to him through his religious superiors and should be at peace as long as due authority has given him specific work to do, however distasteful or seemingly impractical. A monk should have the community’s good at heart and put aside his own judgment and will. Only in this way will the work bring him peace and contentment.
