Hospitality is at the heart of the monastic community. It begins with God the Father, 'Who gave his only Son that the World might be saved.' Jesus in turn gives himself to each one of us on the Eucharistic table every day.
The brothers extend this hospitality to each other by participation in common meals, the common life, working together, praying together and 'bearing one another's burdens' (RB).
The brothers further extend this hospitality to receiving guests as St Benedict tells us in his Rule, 'Guests are to be received as Christ.'
