On the 5th Sunday of Lent Br Maximillian began his novitiate. Your prayers for his ongoing efforts to respond generously to the grace of God is much appreciated. Many thanks.
Abbot Peter's Homily for the funeral of Fr Timothy Michell of Guadalupe Abbey on the 12/02/2021
Kindly remember in your prayers our dear Fr Timothy Michell who passed away peacefully 4.30PM on Wed 24th Nov. A few hours before he passed, we his community, gathered around his bed for the prayers for the dying. He participated in the prayers in a spirit of joy and peace. Fr Timothy was 92 years of age. Before he entered the monastery he was a photo surveillance pilot in the Korean War. At one point his commanding officer told him he was not getting close enough to the enemy for decent quality photographs. On the next excursion he came back with the plane full of bullet holes. With wry humor he said to the commanding officer, "Did I get close enough for you this time?" He worked as guestmaster in the retreat house for many decades. He was a gifted singer, musician and with his knowledge of electronics he skillfully kept all the machinery of the abbey businesses running like clockwork. He was a generous servant and brother to all the community.
On the Feast of St Benedict, Sunday July 11th, the community had the joy of receiving Br Scott into full communion as a solemnly professed brother. Present were his family, parents Patrick and Dianne, brothers Mark and David and many nieces and nephews. We trust in your prayers for Br Scott as he continues his monastic journey with the Lord and with us.
